Finding Your Power

About Me

Finding Your Power

Life as a busy parent can feel overwhelming. Between running kids to school and soothing colds throughout the night, it can be hard to focus on yourself and find your inner power to move forward. A few years ago, I started feeling beaten-down and depressed. To work out my problems, I decided to try counseling. I was absolutely amazed with the difference it made in my life. After I had the opportunity to talk with someone, I learned ways to cope with my daily routine. The goal of my website is to help other people to understand that there is a great life out there, and that counseling can help you to find your way.

What You Can Do To Make Your Depression Treatment More Effective

Depression is a very common experience, and approximately one in ten Americans suffer from some degree of depression at any given time. Depression itself is usually accompanied by a loss of interest in activities, a negative outlook, anxiety, eating too much or too little, sleeping too much or too little, and general self-neglect. Depression can interfere with your ability to work, play, and live a good and happy life. In some cases, it can be very difficult to treat. There are many types of depression treatments that are customized for each individual patient, and there are many things you yourself can do to help pull you out of the downward spiral of depression. Here are some tips to help keep your spirits up while undergoing your depression treatment. Sometimes the little things can make a big positive impact over time!

Eat Well

One of the most common side effects of depression is that you either lose your appetite or crave comfort foods that have lots of carbs or sugar. Unfortunately, while these foods may offer comfort for your mind, it's not very good for your body.

Even if you don't feel like it, you must eat a balanced diet with plenty of greens, fresh fruits and protein. An unhealthy body cannot benefit your mind!

Be Active

When you are depressed, all of those little hobbies and fun activities tend to go by the wayside. Rather than give into your feelings of sadness, you must force yourself to do one activity you used to enjoy every day. For example, if you used to enjoy painting, but find it hard to get interested in it anymore, make yourself try painting even a little every day. It will force your mind to get out of negative thinking and into a positive problem-solving mindset instead.

Additionally, over time, you may find yourself becoming interested in your favorite activities once again.

Exercise is also one of the very best things you can do for depression. Even if you have no enthusiasm for exercise at the moment, you must force yourself to exercise a little every single day. Exercise will get your endorphins and "feel good" brain chemicals churning forth and will most likely help lift your spirits tremendously.

While it is hard to force yourself to be active and do things, it is a must! Fight back against depression with a good depression treatment and your own daily activities. Talk to a professional like Dr Kuris Counseling Centers.
