Finding Your Power

About Me

Finding Your Power

Life as a busy parent can feel overwhelming. Between running kids to school and soothing colds throughout the night, it can be hard to focus on yourself and find your inner power to move forward. A few years ago, I started feeling beaten-down and depressed. To work out my problems, I decided to try counseling. I was absolutely amazed with the difference it made in my life. After I had the opportunity to talk with someone, I learned ways to cope with my daily routine. The goal of my website is to help other people to understand that there is a great life out there, and that counseling can help you to find your way.

Understanding Educational Therapy And How It Can Help Your Child

If you have a child who struggles in school or one who desires to achieve better grades but seems to fall short, you may want to consider educational therapy. Educational therapy uses a specialized approach to learning and is not the same thing as tutoring. It can be helpful for any child but is especially valuable for a child with learning difficulties.

Educational therapy versus tutoring

When you hire a tutor to work with your child, the focus is usually on academics and learning to do better in a certain subject. Educational therapy takes a broader approach to learning and may involve academics, learning study and organizing skills, and working with your child in a specialized area such as helping with reading skills if your child has a learning disability.

Who provides educational therapy?

Educational therapists can come from a wide range of backgrounds and often have experience working with children in a variety of settings. Social workers, math and reading specialists, special education teachers, and speech therapists are some of the people who may offer educational therapy for kids. Educational therapists often specialize in a certain area of study, such as working with kids who have ADHD, sensory disorders, etc.

Address specific subjects

If the thought of taking a math test gives your child anxiety, it may be because your child lacks the necessary skills to complete math problems. In fact, it is not uncommon for a child to excel in many subjects and have one subject that they struggle to pass. An educational therapist can address these problems by working with your child to implement new skills for solving math problems that make it easier for your child to learn.

Know your child's learning style

Each child is unique and has their own learning style. This can create problems in a standard school setting where all kids are given the same curriculum and expected to learn in a group setting. An educational therapist can analyze your child's learning style and incorporate methods of learning that will suit your child best.

Seeing your child excel in school is a proud moment for parents and being able to grasp the various subjects taught will help your child do well. Educational therapy is a great tool to use if your child desires to improve their learning skills or if your child struggles with learning a certain subject. Once your child gains confidence in their ability to succeed, you are likely to see their grades improve as they implement the skills taught in educational therapy.
